Buying a Printer - What to Consider

Tuesday, August 7th, 2007

Most households nowadays would have a computer system and also a printer for children to do their school assignments and projects.

The main aspect to look at in choosing a printer …

  •  whether colour, or black/white printing is required
  • the budget for a printer - a budget injet printer would cost around RM160-00 whereas a laser printer would cost RM350-00
  • the cost of consumables - although inkjet cartridge would cost less per colour (ranging from RM10 - RM19 per OEM colour, and a laser toner cartridge would probably cost RM100-00 depending on models) but cost per page for an inkjet printer would be much higher than a toner cartridge which gives you an average yield of 2500 pages based on 5%.

As many people are printing their digital photographs, it makes sense for them to choose a colour printer.  An Inkjet Printer would of course be more economical in terms of upfront investment compared to a colour laserjet printer.  Bear in mind that for those who choose to buy an inkjet printer that they should not leave the printer idle for long periods of time as this might clog the printhead.  What we recommend is that you print one -colour-page per week to keep the printhead clear of any clogging or blockage.

If you expect to do more of black/white printing though, consider choosing a laser toner printer.  The initial outlay may be more by approximately RM200-00 but the cost-per-copy is about RM0.03 only.

So, basically, there are three types of printers :-

  • inkjet printer - more popular with home users and enabled to print colour and black/white;
  • photo printer - enable to print high quality digital photographs.  Some come with memory slot whereby you can print direct from your camera;
  • laser printer - enabled to print fast and quality printout.  Highly used in offices but gaining popularity for small-office-home-business.

Tips for Xerox 203A Toner Cartridge

Monday, August 6th, 2007

Do you own a Xerox DocuPrint 203A or 204A but cannot find a remanufacturer for your initial cartridge?

Many of our clients using this printer also complain that other suppliers tell them that the initial cartridge cannot be recycled.  The problem is that there is a setting in the toner tank that works as a resetter everytime the user changes the toner cartridge.  The initial cartridge is pre-set by the manufacturer and therefore do not come with this resetter.  As such, most supplier tells their clients to purchase a new original cartridge when their initial cartridge runs out.

At Eco Device, we can recycle the initial cartridge for you and reset your printer upon delivery of the cartridge.  This service is provided for clients within the Penang region.
